Collection: Victor Picou
Embracing a vibrant tapestry of creativity, Victor Picou's art evolves through spontaneity and passion. With a rich background in fine arts, Victor has continually expanded his repertoire from sculpting and painting to intricate textile works on canvas and linen. His art reflects a deep appreciation for the living world—its people, fauna, and flora—drawing inspiration from the dynamic forms and vivid colors found in nature.
Victor's artistic journey has been marked by his innovative use of materials and techniques. Since 2020, he has explored the potentials of porcelain and textiles, finding joy and new perspectives in embroidery and tapestry-like applications. These mediums allow him to express his fascination with the textures and movements of the human form and the subtle intricacies of natural landscapes.
Educated at the University of Washington, where he earned a BFA in 1975, Victor also studied at Seattle Community College and the Burnley Commercial School of Art. His commitment to the arts community is evident in his roles as CEO and Symposium Director for the California Sculptors Symposium, co-curator for significant exhibitions, and a juror for multiple art shows. Victor is also a proud member of the California Art League and the Pasadena Society of Artists, further underscoring his active involvement and commitment to fostering artistic endeavors.
Victor's sculptures enrich public spaces and private collections across North America, with notable installations including "Moonflower" at Kaiser Medical Center in Seattle and "Stone Flower" at the Washington State Convention Center. A celebrated member of the artistic community, he has held leadership positions in the Pasadena Society of Artists and other regional organizations, significantly shaping the sculptural dialogue in California. His role as a leader in the Northwest Stone Sculptors Association was pivotal; he served as a board member and symposium director for 12 years, helping to establish symposiums in Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia. The annual events he helped pioneer continue to be successful, demonstrating his lasting impact on the sculptural community.
