Discover the profound connection between art and nature at "Betye Saar: Drifting Toward Twilight," a site-specific installation by renowned American artist Betye Saar, exclusively at The Huntington. This immersive exhibition showcases a 17-foot-long vintage wooden canoe surrounded by an array of found objects—from birdcages and antlers to natural materials sourced from The Huntington’s own grounds.
Reflecting on her childhood visits to The Huntington, Saar transforms the Scott Galleries into a "cocoon-like environment" with oceanic blue walls, a poem, phases of the moon, and dynamic lighting that mimics the transition from daylight to twilight. The installation includes mysterious “passengers” in the canoe and a neon glow that accentuates the underlying plant material, creating an immersive and contemplative experience that blends the outdoor gardens with the indoor gallery space.
