Otis College of Art and Design is thrilled to present "Between Roots and Wings," a thesis exhibition by MFA Fine Arts candidate Tia Xia. This poignant exhibition explores the intricate balance between rootedness and the quest for freedom, illustrating the multifaceted nature of human existence through Tia Xia's painting and installation works.
Drawing on her personal experiences of relocating from China to the U.S., Tia's artworks reflect her internal transition and adaptation to new cultural landscapes. The exhibition is divided into two thematic areas: "Intertwined," a landscape series that captures the complexity of displacement and adaptation, and a series featuring stark black flowers that symbolize the rejuvenation of the inner self and acclimatization to new environments.
"Between Roots and Wings" not only highlights Tia Xia’s artistic growth but also her deep engagement with the psychological constructs shaped by changing surroundings. This exhibition invites attendees to immerse themselves in the art, ponder their own life transitions, and appreciate the blend of past influences and new beginnings.
